Bring back Marbury PDF Print E-mail

This is the beginning of my "Bring Back Marbury" campaign. While some may believe that the Celtics should just move on and go a different direction, I believe that Marbury is backup PG that the Celts should lobby for. I understand that they already made an offer (and have presumably withdrawn it) to Marbury, and Marbury declined it. But he did what any other free agent would've done - explore his options if the first offer received didn't "wow" him. So, that's what he's doing. Do other teams have inclinations in signing him to a bigger deal? Maybe. Maybe not. But I'd much rather the Celtics go out and get Marbury signed than pursue the alternative. Which, if you believe the reports, is Tyronn friggin' Lue.

It's still early in the free agent courting season, but let's take a look at what the Celtics have as their steady rotation guys:

C- Perk, Wallace

PF- KG, Wallace, Scal

SF- Pierce

SG- R. Allen, House

PG- Rondo

I am assuming that Big Baby is gone, and that Tony Allen will contribute little. The glaring holes are quite evident - a solid backup to Pierce, and one for Rondo. Now, maybe the ball is in Marbury's court on this one. But it would be nice to see an effort put forth to convince him that Boston is where it's at. With a full training camp under his belt, I imagine Marbury would be the perfect backup to Rondo, and would solidify the Celtics' backcourt. Seriously, wouldn't that be the best option, rather than a guy like Lue? Get it done, and let's move on.
