James Posey #41 of the Boston Celtics celebrates victory against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game Six of the 2008 NBA Finals on June 17, 2008 at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

James Posey won't be walking through that door next season. Posey today signed a 4-year contract, believed to be worth 25 million, with the New Orleans Hornets. From Steve Bulpett:

James Posey and the Celtics ended up being a year apart.

Danny Ainge acknowledged the decisive difference as Posey departed the Celtics today and agreed to a four-year, free-agent deal with the New Orleans Hornets.

According to Posey’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, the new contract will be worth $25 million. The Celts had been offering two years, but they changed to three a short time into the free-agent process.

Well, on the plus-side, at least he didn't sign with the Lakers, Pistons, or Cavs. Still, it's a big loss to the Celtics 2nd unit. His defensive tenacity and toughness will be sorely missed.
