NBA Betting

After going 19-6 straight up from the beginning of the 2009/10 NBA season through Dec. 18, the Atlanta Hawks have slipped a little. Hotlanta has been anything but hot since mid-December, going 4-7 SU and 5-6 against the spread. Nevertheless, the Hawks are still the team with the best ATS record in the entire NBA, with a 24-12 mark as of the start of the week. Atlanta has been masterful at home, going 14-4 SU and 13-5 ATS while they have been mediocre on the road SU with a record of 9-9 SU and is better ATS at 11-7.

NBA Future Odds:

The Hawks are listed at +1000 to take the Eastern Conference, slotting in behind only the Cleveland Cavaliers (5-4), the Boston Celtics (15-8) and the Orlando Magic (14-5). Currently, online sportsbook have them listed at +1800 (18-1) to win the NBA championship, just behind the San Antonio Spurs at +1400 (14-1) and in front of the Dallas Mavericks (20-1) Atlanta’s next game comes Wednesday at home against the Washington Wizards, who will be sans Gilbert Arenas of course. In the Hawks’ last eight games overall against the Wiz, they are 7-1 SU and 6-2 ATS and in their last 13 games against Washington, the Under has cashed nine times, the Over three times with a Push thrown in for good measure. Atlanta hasn’t been good at home against Washington however, going 4-7 ATS in their last 11 at the Philips Arena. You can check all the odds and daily NBA lines at sportsbook.

NBA Betting Surprise:

One of the surprises so far this season comes in the form of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The former Seattle SuperSonics were one of the worst teams in the league last year with a record of 23-59 SU (although they were a respectable 45-36-1 ATS) This year they have improved their straight up record, with a mark of 20-16 and are maintaining the status quo ATS at a profitable 21-15 ATS. The Thunder currently own eighth spot in the Western Conference — good enough for the playoffs if the season ended today. The online sportsbooks have their future odds posted at +6000 longshots to take the Western Conference this season and real longshots at +10,000 to take the championship. Oklahoma City also sees action next on Wednesday as it hosts the San Antonio Spurs and dating back to the franchise’s final days in the Pacific Northwest, the Thunder are 5-2 ATS.

Lakes Big Favorites:

The Los Angeles Lakers own the best record in the entire league at 29-8 but they aren’t quite up to par for bettors, as they are only 16-21 against the spread. Not surprisingly, the Lakers are the favorites to win the Western Conference at -140. Bettors also like them to win the NBA Championship, as they are the favorites there as well, currently sitting with NBA future odds of +225 to repeat as champs. The NBA future odds betting action is getting more attention at sportsbooks as the NFL season hits the playoffs and starts to wind down, bettors turn more attention to the NBA. Keep an eye out for value with the odds.

Pierce got his 19,000th point tonight - the same night Allen got his 20,000th. Not sure if that's ever happened in the same game before or not. Regardless, it's still pretty cool.

Ray Allen scored his 20,000th point midway through the 3rd quarter tonight. Fittingly, he did it with a three ball. He's the first player to reach the 20,000 plateau since Kevin Garnett did it.

Proof that All Star voters are stupid PDF Print E-mail

The NBA released the first batch of results for NBA All Star voting today. And it revealed more proof that voters in general are stupid.

Example 1 - Rajon Rondo trails Allen Iverson by approximately 33,000 votes.

Example 2 - Kendrick Perkins trails Rasheed Wallace - yes, Rasheed Freaking Wallace - by almost a 2-to-1 spread.

Example 3 - Pau Gasol has more votes than Tim Duncan (maybe it's not THAT stupid. I just hate Gasol.)

Example 4 - Kevin Durant is 5th in voting for the West forwards - almost 100,000 votes behind Tim Duncan, who is 4th.

Example 5 - Tracy McGrady (who has yet to play this season) is 2nd among West guards - ahead of Steve Nash, Chris Paul, and Jason Kidd.

Example 6 - Chauncey Billups and Brandon Roy are 9th and 10th respectively in fan voting

The voting has been a joke for years now, but come on Celtics fans. How can you be voting for Rasheed Wallace over Perk? Maybe it's not you, and 'Sheed is just a more prominent name throughout fandome. But come on.......

Daniels out '3-4 games' PDF Print E-mail

Marquis Daniels is expected to be out at least 3-4 games:

Celtics reserve Marquis Daniels is expected to miss at least a week of action with a sore left wrist.

Boston coach Doc Rivers said prior to Tuesday's game against Milwaukee that the team will know more about the injury on Wednesday.

"I don't think he'll play in the next couple of games for sure," Rivers said.

Daniels kept insisting that he was fine, but finally acknowledged earlier this week that he might need to rest the troublesome wrist.

"He'll miss 3-4 games, I'd say, hopefully no more than that," Rivers added.

Daniels is averaging 5.7 points and 2.1 assists per game for the Celtics this season.
